John Wiese “Ghost Call” 12"
In 2003, Namdev Hardisty’s Hardisty-Disk record label released the 12" ep “Ghost Call" by LA noise artist John Wiese in a simple fold-over cover with four-color screenprinting. For the 2008 re-launch, we remixed the packaging, simplifying it to 2 colors and adding more layers to the packaging including a full-interior print of an image from Kimberlee Whaley’s “MonoWood” series.
About the music:
The three tracks on “Ghost Call” find Wiese bridging the gap between his more “pure” harsh noise work and the post-music of Sissy Spacek. Starting with a rich metallic drone, this gives way to a cut up attack as disorienting as any Sissy Spacek but relying more on speed and disruption than brutality. The B-side is a long collage of electro-acoustic sound and Vinyl manipulation. 2nd edition is limited edition of 62 hand-stamped and screened covers.
